About

Ms Mabaleka is a lecturer and WIL coordinator in the Department of Recreation and Tourism at the University of Zululand. She strongly believes in teaching pedagogy that is centered and relevant to our context as Africa in the field of tourism. She is passionate about the youth and developing students who will challenge the status quo of the tourism industry in its current form, by encouraging young people to be active drivers of the industry themselves, rather than perpetual receivers. She believes that it is through youth participation, where the industry can be more inclusive to all population groups in South Africa and the African continent at large. She graduated with her Masters Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and has publications around Coastal and Marine Tourism, Township Entrepreneurship, Community Engagement as well as Blended Learning. She currently teaches Marketing for Tourism as well as Travel Practice in the Diploma in Tourism Management programme.

Nolwazi shares a deep passion for education, and believes it is the greatest tool that can be used to change a nation for the better. She also strongly advocates education that is embedded in the principles of humanity, fostering positive change across disciplines for all. Ms Mabaleka is also intending to pursue her PhD, which is grounded in supporting the strategic vision of the university, one which advocates for African thought.
