About

Gift Tapiwa Marovatsanga is a Drama and Theatre Studies Lecturer, a multi-disciplinary performing and visual artist who has a passion for telling stories on and off stage. Gift teaches the theory and practice of various drama and theatre courses including Acting for the Stage and Film, Script and Screen Writing, Applied Drama and Theatre, and Directing. When not teaching, Gift writes and directs, mostly for the theatre and has mentored many young artists.Some of Gift’s productions include Hidden Closet, (NAF 2012), The Embrace (DFL Festival 2014), Vuka Africa (Unizulu 2015), award winning play Faces (2015-2024) and To The CEO (UniZulu 2016 & NAF 2024).

 

As a researcher and a community engagement practitioner, Gift is interested in participatory action research and in themes around masculinity, gender relations, relationships and power. Because of his background and experience in University and community leadership and participatory research, Gift also identifies as a leadership consultant and a people development practitioner and facilitator
