Master’s in Applied Drama (Wits University), Bachelor of Arts with Honours (Wits University), PhD in Drama & Theatre Studies (Stellenbosch University)

About

Dr Tebogo Radebe is an Advanced Acting and Directing Lecturer in the Creative Arts Department within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zululand.

As both a theatre practitioner and academic researcher, Dr Radebe has a deep interest in examining how the arts shape and influence culture, relationships, and human behaviour. His work is inspired by the ways in which academic and arts-based creative research particularly drama and theatre can spark dialogue, facilitate discussion, and enhance teaching and learning.

He is especially passionate about using theatre as a vehicle to open spaces for community dialogue, critical reflection, and intellectual engagement. His PhD research at Stellenbosch University (Centre for Theatre and Performance Studies; Historical Trauma and Transformation Studies) explored the role and contribution of Ubuntu in community theatre, drawing from his own upbringing and involvement in community theatre spaces. His research continues to investigate how community theatre practices enable narratives of Ubuntu, creativity, and collaboration to foster social change among youth and broader society.
